I’m back – Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2014! Bright running lights, shiny bicycles and clean trainers are all good signs that the city is filled with refreshed inhabitants whose wishes were fulfilled. The New Year and the fresh start are well worth the effort of getting through the last year. I have set myself a cliché of a resolution, my aim to lose 6 kilos in 2014. It would have been a harder task had I not recently added 3 due to overindulgence!
It has been a while since my last posting and this is in part due to getting through last year’s present, “The First Law Trilogy”.

This is definitely a mainstream selection and so I am not reviewing it here, there are already plenty of decent reviews available. Suffice it to say that this is a fun read, secrets galore, deeply flawed heroes and an almost inevitable amount of self-indulgent tension and violence. Intermingled with that is the occasional and surprisingly graphic sexual encounters. The plot twists and turns through three volumes in not too surprising ways and I enjoyed kicking back and relaxing with these books.
One of the surprises of the season was a technological one. We needed a new monitor for our home computer and have been getting increasingly embarrassed by the number of times we have tried to swipe at the old one, we have become so used to smart phones and tablets etc. So I was very happy to find a touch screen monitor that had a half way decent price and a pretty fair set of reviews.

I was very impressed that this monitor was a simple plug and play without any rubbish, time consuming set up, beyond the cables of course. It got straight to work doing what it should with a magnificent 23inch display, pretty good sound from built in speakers and importantly a very well functioning touch screen. One can almost leave the mouse alone completely, except that drag and drop has been tricky, otherwise it is a great leap in the right direction.
Have a great 2014!
